CHARACTER
Character Name: Nicolas Brown
Age: 12
Species: Human (enhanced)
Canon: GANGSTA.
Canon Point: Nic and young Worick have just taken to the streets after the massacre
Character Info: full canon history OR child info only
Personality: Due to growing up deaf, uneducated, and neglected, Nic is an introspective sort. Though he can talk in grunted, rough syllables, and he's learning to write and sign, he mostly keeps within himself. He thinks in black and whites, dead or alive. Even an incredibly complicated concept, like the origin, lives, and politics of Twilights, is something simple in his eyes. Though that's not all that surprising, considering he's a child. He is behind socially and developmentally, but he is no fool. Nic's quick thinking has to match his feet in battle, and he's quick to pick up on things, such as copying someone's spelling to fix his own or noticing someone is just as used to being beaten as he is. He is fascinated with learning new things, particularly if it will help him, like sign language. Nic won't let his fascination for learning get in the way of practicality, however. His ultimate goal has always been survival and making his father proud of him, because despite his abuse, he loved him. Now all he has is survival. Despite the fact he's broken and beaten, the only reasons Nic would withhold kindness would be if he were commanded to or if he didn't know how. He's a good kid, if a little homicidal. Once he grows close to someone, he will kill for them without hesitation, and he will see nothing wrong with it. Like the fae, he has no sympathies for the dead.
Abilities: As a Twilight, or drug-enhanced super-ish-human, Nic has the following abilities:

  • Enhanced strength; he can throw someone bigger than him and swing an adult-sized katana hard enough to slice off limbs

  • Enhanced speed; he has some growing to do, but in the time it took for a grenade to fall a foot to the ground, he leapt ten feet, grabbed it, and lobbed it away. In the time it took Wallace to glimpse Nic at the window and jump to his feet, Nic noticed birds scattering from something suspicious, jumped out the window, and killed an intruder dead. By the time Wallace had run to the window to look out, Nic was staring down at the body, holding a bloody katana and surrounded by some of his fellow soldiers who had started to gather. Kid's fast.

  • Acrobatic agility; he leaps from the fourth story and lands on his feet like it's nothing and not totally against basic physics. He's fond of flips and landing on men's shoulders from above. He can also be incredibly quiet about it when he wants to be; like an owl in flight, he makes a good assassin.

  • Enhanced sight; although not seen at this age, when he's older, he can accurately read lips from blocks away, while on top of a building. As Twilights do not "gain" abilities like mutant superheroes, Nic just has a weaker version of this ability at twelve. I'd say he can accurately read lips a block away, just to be safe.

  • Swordplay; though lacking in technique, he has down the basics.

  • Assassin-style combat and basic hand-to-hand; as small as he is, Nic must use his speed and stature to get the jump on a larger man--sometimes literally, on his shoulders--and kill him before he even realizes Nic was there.

  • Lip-reading; he's able to read lips from quite a ways away. Although he's still practicing on accuracy of sight, he can easily eavesdrop.

  • Born Deaf; I'd say having the ability to not hear someone bitching at you and just ignore them is a great advantage.

CARNIVAL
Soul Colour: Dark blue AKA this
Ideal Jobs: Mercenary, acrobat
Relevant Experience: mercenary/soldier since he could walk and ostensibly fight; his Twilight blood gives him enhanced agility, speed, sight, and strength.
Reason for Joining: Upon taking to the streets with his dubious friend/master/only partner in the world, Nic was more lost than ever. He had just lost his father because of his friend, and now, homeless and jobless as a subhuman, the future was not bright. Looking for work, they passed a dank alley, and Nic hesitated. He followed a bouncing cinder spirit out of curiosity and the need for escape, and happened upon the carnival. A "child" con-fae played him to peek in on an illusionist's show, inviting him to join the fae at a tear in the tent. A burly bouncer plucked Nic up by the shirt collar and the rest is contractual.

He'll be arriving with his high carbon steel katana and stainless steel dog tags.

SAMPLES
thread sample with thought conversation and sample with usual stunted communication

A small asian boy precariously tip-toes across a tightrope, arms cast out at his sides. He's practicing a hundred feet up, and there's no net. This is maybe the second or third time he's done this. He's wobbly and cautious, but still he has a strange confidence like he's done similar, much more dangerous things all his life.

One foot over the other -- despite his confidence, it's clear he doesn't have the technique right. Though no one would think it looking at him, he's been focusing on his mercenary duties much more than this one.

One foot over the -- it slips, and he's falling. Anyone who touched a tightrope longer than a week would have seen it coming. The kid only grunts in shock as he drops toward the ground. Will those spells be enough to catch him? Will a hero rush to his rescue? Or will someone grab some popcorn and watch? It's a long way to the ground; he's bound to last a few seconds.
